Hazel Anna Sorensen Smith
This is my mother's mother, Grandma Anna. She was the most generous, kindest and humblest person I have ever known. Every summer I went to visit my grandmother for several days. Sometimes my cousins, Stacy Devine and Adrienne Butler, would be there as well. We had wonderful times dressing up in the beautiful filmy nightgowns my grandmother had. Grandma drove from Wendover to Salt Lake City once (or was it twice) a week to have her hair done at the Hotel Utah. When my cousins and I were staying with her sometimes we would stay over night at the Hotel. We probably drove the staff there crazy. I remember running wild, playing in the elevators and generally having a wonderful time. I have many, many more memories of this great lady. Do you?

She was definitely an incredible lady!
ReplyDeleteGina Draper Gregory commented via facebook: Growing up we went to see grandma Anna quite often. On one of our visits I remember walking into the front room and she was reading all the thank you notes that the elementary kids had written. We had finished the reading rodeo just recently at the elementary school. The state line would donate coupons for it each yr. And after which the kids would all draw thank you pictures. Grandma would go through and read each of them. (She would pull mine and ben's out and hang them up). But to see her go and look at each one really struck me. She was happy and touched by each card. That was her way. Every one was special and you felt it when you were near her. I miss her still.
ReplyDeleteMy Grandmother Anna Smith was the most generous, sweet and genuine person. When I think of her and reflect on how she was such an intricate apart of my life I want to try to be the grandma to my grandchildren that she was to me. When I was a child, and spending time with her in Wendover I remember playing with my cousins Jan Oelkers and Stacy Devine we played with grandma’s jewelry and dress up in her clothes and how much fun we had. We also as Jan has stated we spent time at the Hotel Utah. Grandma would take us to get our hair and nails done and then of course go shopping at ZCMI. There were times that the three of us had matching outfits, we loved being with grandma. When I was a little older and grandma lived next door to us, she always made me feel like I was her favorite and I am sure all the other grandchildren felt that way too. Grandma’s house was fun whether we had snacks played a card game or a game of yahtzee grandma was willing to entertain me. I was always grateful for the getaways at the Stateline to be spoiled and relax for a few days. When the Sun Valley tradition started, the years of bringing our family together for a week brought so many fond memories and closeness that we were so blessed to have. Some of my boys have experienced this and still think of Sun Valley often with fondness. I am so grateful to have had this special lady in my life and to have been influenced by her. I love and miss you everyday Grandma!
